LoMalo
LoMalo is the musical project of Dutch producer and live performer Niek Braun, known for bringing a musician’s perspective to electronic dance music. Combining a background in jazz with a deep appreciation for house grooves, LoMalo creates energetic, rhythm-driven music that balances the precision of electronic production with the spontaneity of live performance. Based in the Netherlands, he has developed a distinctive identity in the house scene through his inventive approach to making and performing music.
One of the things that sets LoMalo apart is his ability to build house tracks in real time. Rather than relying solely on pre-programmed arrangements or DJ techniques, he surrounds himself with instruments and uses live looping to construct beats, basslines and musical layers in front of an audience. His videos demonstrating this process have attracted considerable attention online, earning support and recognition from established names and platforms in electronic music, including Defected and Traxsource. With more than 125,000 TikTok followers reported on his official artist profile, LoMalo has also built a sizeable online community around his creative process.
Musically, LoMalo draws on his jazz education and natural instinct for groove to create a sound rooted in house, deep house and disco. His approach brings improvisation and musical interaction into the tightly structured world of electronic dance music. Basslines, percussion and rhythmic variations are central to his productions, while his live-looping technique allows him to experiment with unexpected changes and spontaneous arrangements. LoMalo's live shows are an important part of his artistic identity. Surrounded by instruments and looping equipment, he builds his performances layer by layer, transforming the stage into a live production environment. His performances have helped him stand out on festival and club line-ups, offering an engaging alternative to more traditional electronic dance performances.
LoMalo has built an extensive relationship with Vokall Records, releasing a range of singles and projects through the label. Early releases include “House Music Fanatic”, “Ease My Mind” and “Silence”, the latter featuring GINA VOCA. His 2023 EP “Voice Memos” took an especially creative approach: inspired by voice messages sent to him by followers on TikTok and Instagram, LoMalo transformed those recordings into musical ideas and complete tracks. The project demonstrated his ability to turn audience interaction into an original part of his creative process. In May 2024, he released the six-track EP “Affirmations” through Vokall Records, featuring collaborations with Alethea Crimmins and Zoe Austrie on tracks including “You Can And Will”, “I'm The Best” and “Do We Have A Problem”. He followed this with “You Can And Will pt. 2”, continuing the collaboration with Alethea Crimmins.
Through his productions, inventive live performances and ongoing work with Vokall, LoMalo continues to explore new ways of bringing musicianship into electronic dance music. His combination of jazz-inspired improvisation, infectious house rhythms and audience-driven creativity gives the project a character of its own.
